OUR STORY
Welcome to our workshop! Tucked away in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Bedford, Virginia, Drifter Woodworks is a family-owned woodworking business operated by Carlos and Crystal Imery. We built our 1,200-square-foot shop from the ground up, surrounded by the mountains and forest that inspire much of what we create.
Originally from Venezuela, Carlos moved to the United States, where he worked aboard high-end yachts specializing in custom woodwork and finish carpentry. That experience gave him a strong foundation for his future in woodworking. With more than ten years of woodworking experience, he now brings those skills to everything from milling lumber to custom woodworking projects.
Inspired by her husband’s love of woodworking, Crystal found her own creative path through scroll sawing and pyrography, combining detailed wood burning with dimensional wood art and nature-inspired designs.
Together, we built Drifter Woodworks around two sides of the craft. Our sawmill produces live-edge slabs and custom lumber, along with portable milling services for customers who want to transform their own logs into usable wood. In our woodworking studio, we create handcrafted wood art, custom pieces, and one-of-a-kind designs inspired by the natural beauty of wood.
From milling a log to creating the finished piece, our shop is where we spend our days working with wood, experimenting with new ideas, and making things meant to last.

Carlos Imery
Drifter Woodworks started simply—with a love for creating things by hand.
Carlos Imery has spent over a decade working with wood, learning through experience and steadily refining his craft. A true DIY enthusiast, he approaches every project with curiosity and precision—always asking how things work and how they can be built better. His interests go beyond woodworking into technology, engineering, and sound, all of which shape the way he thinks and builds. In the shop, he’s hands-on from start to finish, turning raw materials into pieces that are practical, durable, and built to last. His work reflects not only skill, but a deep curiosity and genuine respect for the craft.
Crystal Imery
Crystal is the creative side of Drifter Woodworks, specializing in scroll saw art and pyrography. Her work is inspired by nature, wildlife, motorcycles, and the beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains. She enjoys combining different woodworking techniques to create original pieces which have movement and character.

At Drifter Woodworks, we offer custom portable sawmilling services right at your property. Our portable sawmill has the capacity to handle logs up to 32 inches in diameter and 21 feet in length, allowing us to mill a wide range of lumber to fit your project needs.
Whether you’re looking for custom size posts or large live-edge slabs for tables, countertops, and custom woodworking projects, we can turn your logs into beautiful, usable lumber while preserving the natural character of the wood.
Our milling rate is $150 per hour with a 2-hour minimum.
